ZCAM

The workshop will be held at ZCAM (Zaragoza Scientific Center for Advanced Modelling), which is also the Spanish node of CECAM. It is located in the “Rio Ebro” campus of the University of Zaragoza:

Edificio I+D, Mariano Esquillor, s/n, 50018 Zaragoza

The I+D building (Investigación y Desarrollo) is at the Northern end of the Engineering School campus (Escuela de Ingenieros), next to a large car parking place. It is a three-storey building with red lateral walls.

As you enter the main building (first floor) make a right, pass the reception booth, and take the stairs. On the second floor on the left there are the conference rooms. The ZCAM administrator (Beatriz Antoli) is on the third floor (to the right after the flight of stairs). Beatriz or her colleague will give you the registration package and the lunch ticket for today.

The workshop will run from 15:30 on February 9th to around 12:30 on February 11th.

Travel to the workshop

Zaragoza is about 1.5 hours by high-speed train from either Barcelona or Madrid. An option is to fly to either Madrid or Barcelona and take, from downtown main stations, the high-speed train to Zaragoza (allow some time to get to the train station from the airport). Likewise for outbound travel on the last day of the workshop.

For train schedules and booking, you might want to use the trainline.com website. The relevant stations are:

The airport in Zaragoza (ZAZ) has a relatively limited number of direct flights, but it might also be a possibility for some of you.

NOTE about possible train service disruptions

Following a recent train accident and other incidents, train drivers have called for a strike on February 9, 10, and 11, demanding safety improvements and changes to track maintenance procedures.

Info

UPDATE:

The strike was called off in the evening of Feb 9th.

Note that trains are not going at full speed, and one can expect a 15-20’ delay in the trips Madrid-Zaragoza and Barcelona-Zaragoza. Also, late trains have been cancelled to allow more time for night-time checking of the tracks.

For those who might need to cancel bus tickets: If you download the ALSA bus app for your phones, you can add the booking you made online. Under “manage ticket” there are options for changes and cancellations. Flexible fares return 80% of the ticket value up to two hours before the trip.

Transport alternatives:

  1. Regular bus service (Barcelona-Zaragoza or Madrid-Zaragoza routes)

    • Operator: ALSA (Zaragoza bus station is located next to the train station)
    • Barcelona route: 11 buses daily, approx. 3h30-3h45 travel time. BCN Bus Station
    • Madrid route: Multiple departures daily (most stopping at the airport), with similar travel time. Bus station
  2. By car:
